Formas is planning to open a call focusing on the links between climate change, water and biodiversity, and how related challenges can be addressed holistically.

The call will welcome researchers from all disciplines. We intend to fund research projects on this topic in two four-year stages. This call is for stage 1. We have reserved a total of 120 million SEK for the first stage. Preliminary, applicants may apply for a maximum of 12–16 million SEK for stage 1.

The main applicant must have obtained a PhD and currently be, or through the project become, active at an acknowledged administrating organisation at Formas. Such organisations generally include universities, colleges, research institutes and other organisations whose primary function is research. Formas encourages cooperation also with non-research stakeholders, but co-financing will not be a formal requirement for this call.

You may apply for this call irrespective of any current applications or ongoing projects under other Formas calls. However, the amount granted to cover salaries for researchers, PhD students or other staff may never exceed one hundred percent of one full-time position.

Preliminary timeline:

  • Call opens: January 2023
  • Call closes: March-April 2023
  • Decision: autumn 2023

The call is opened jointly by the National research programme for climate, and the National research programme for oceans and water.
