Activities

Formas' activities are divided into three operational areas; support for research, strategy and analysis, and the communication of research information. International collaboration spans all three of these areas.

Support for research - Funding
Formas has the mission of promoting and supporting basic research and need-driven research in the areas of the environment, agricultural sciences and spatial planning. The research that is supported should be of the highest scientific quality and relevance to Formas’ responsibility areas. Formas may also fund development projects to a limited extent.

The research that is supported in the form of annual calls for proposals, strategic calls and jointly financed research is described in more detail under Support for research.
Support for research - Funding

Strategy and analysis
Formas' strategies, knowledge overviews and development of operational areas are based on analyses and high quality evaluations.
Strategy and analysis

Research communication
Researchers, users of research and interested members of the general public should have good access to research information and research results through Formas.
Formas prioritises the compiling of popular science reviews and the provision of research-based knowledge to help stakeholders active in the areas of the environment, agricultural sciences and spatial planning to avoid and solve problems.
Research communication

International collaboration
Swedish researchers should participate to a high degree in European and international joint research collaborations. In addition Sweden should be awarded a high degree of European and international research funding to augment international research grants. Participation in international activities may be initiated at the behest of the government or through the initiative of the individual researcher.
International Collaboration

The mission of Formas is to promote and support basic research and need-driven research in the areas Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning.
