Organisational Structure
A Director General heads The Swedish Research Council Formas. The Scientific Council is the supreme decision making body.
Formas council is divided into a Department of Research, a Department of Communications and a Department of Administration.

Director General
The Director General is the head of the research council.
Secretary General
The Secretary General is responsible for handling matters for the Board of the research council. The secretary general is a member of the executive committee.
The executive committee
The executive committee consists of the Secretary General and PA to the Director General.
Department of Research
The research department is responsible for dealing with the research support given by Formas. This involves, inter alia, reviewing of applications, acting as the secretariat in the expert panels, project administration, evaluations of research, work on strategies, etc. The department is headed by a departmental director.
Work is performed in close cooperation with researchers and the users of research results. The three overarching research areas of Formas are Environment and Nature, Agricultural Sciences, Animals and Food, Spatial Planning and Building Research. These three research areas are divided into further subsidiary areas. Formas is in addition engaged on interdisciplinary research within and between the research areas, and special grant competitions are held concerning the interdisciplinary research.
The aim of Formas' international activity is to promote international contacts, to acquire new knowledge and new experiences, and to increase Swedish participation in international cooperation. Click here »
Department of Co-ordination and International Affairs
The Department of Co-ordination and International Affairs has the task of coordinating the international activities of Formas, analytical/strategic activities and general Formas Research Council issues such as strategic quality planning, operational planning and operational development.
The department also functions as a resource to assist the Director General and Secretary General and is responsible for the production of the Swedish environmental research web journal, Miljöforskning, and its English version, Sustainability, as well as the production of general internal information.
Department of Administration
The department is responsible for staff matters, for economy, IT, registration unit and mailroom services, and for certain administrative support for the Scientific Council. The department is headed by a departmental director.
