5. Environmental pollution

Basic and needs-driven research with focus on e.g.:

• Source identification and transport of pollutants from the technosphere to humans and the environment
• Mobility, distribution, and fate of pollutants in the environment
• Methods for identification and quantification of pollutants
• Effects of pollutants in the environment and on human and animal health, including combination effects (“cocktail effects”)
• Technical and institutional impediments to, and opportunities for reduction of pollutant emissions
