Who can apply for funding and who can participate?
Only researchers based in any of the 8 countries - Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Netherlans, Portugal, Romania, Sweden or Turkey - with organisations funding the call can apply for funding in pre-research or full research projects.
Researchers from any other country can participate in pre-research, but they do not get any funding through URBAN-NET. Only the coordinator, who has to be based in one of the funding countries, can get funding.
Researchers from all countries are encouraged to "express an interest" to participate in the call by filling in the form following the link on the web-site.
Will there be an URBAN-NET call for research projects next year?
There will be a new call launched either in September 2009 or in January 2010. The closing date will be 3 months later. The exact dates will soon be settled. The theme of the next call is likely to be more focussed.
Can pre-research be jointly funded?
As a rule only the coordinator will be funded. With only one funding organisation included the applicant’s chances to receive funding is likely to be better. Therefore this ought to be the first alternative for pre-research proposals. But as a second alternative a demand for funding of co-applicants based in other countries with organisations funding the call could be indicated in the Appendix B, (and accepted if possible).
Only one application needs to be submitted - by the coordinator of the project.
How to enter and fill in the application form?
Enterhttp://direct.formas.se/default2.asp and press the British flag to get the English version and then follow the instructions to register etc.
Drop-down-lists for university etc. If you cannot find your own alternative you just write it in the field underneath.
Dates. Date of birth refers to the Swedish identification number which consists of the date of birth in the first box written YYMMDD. The second box needs just a number and does not have to be filled in. Date of PhD is written YYYY-MM-DD.
Ethical aspects, 14.1, is filled in if relevant.
Sector relevance, 15.1, means that you shall describe how, for what or for whom the results of your project are expected to be useful.
Costs, 16, are specified per “budget year”. is16.1-2: When you enter the start and end dates the “budget years” appear on top of the columns of 16.3 - 5: where you write the names of the co-applicants, etc.
How do we deal with different "national" budget requirements?
The application form does not suit the "national" budget requirements, so it is important that you use the Appendix B to be able to write the "national" parts of the budget in accordance with different requirements of the funding organisations.
All costs must be in Euro.
How to write and upload the appendices?
The appendices you create yourself as normal pdf, word or excel files. (There are no appendix templates). To upload them you press the Appendices button to the left in the application form (e-template). There you find restrictions in terms of number of pages for these appendices. Choose Appendix A – D and use the browser to select the appropriate file in your computer and upload it just as you attach a file to your e-mails.
Appendix A: In addition to the information given in the call text; describe the tasks of the different “national teams” so that the different funding organisations can see what they are meant to fund.
Appendix B: Costs are specified in the Appendix B. It is important that the budgets of the different “national teams” are separated and made according to the requirements of each funding organisation. The total costs per country must be clearly shown.
Appendix C and D: CV’s and lists of publications for the different applicants are downloaded separately, i.e. more than one appendix C and D can be downloaded.
How to create the hard copy for signatures?
Formas does not accept any hard copies except for the PDF form to be signed and posted to Formas. It will be created when you press the button to register your application. The signed paper must have arrived at Formas by the 23rd April. Your application will not be formally registered before Formas has received it. To be on the safe side you can fax it to Formas as well, +46 8 775 4010.
Can one undertake research that is focused on both European and non-European cities? Answer: Yes, for instance in a comparison.
Note that this is a dynamic page with new information added as new questions arrive, so keep on asking!
