Standing Evaluation Panels

Formas' standing evaluation panels are listed in the left menu or at the bottom of this page.

Evaluation panel members

The standing evaluation panels (members, chairman and vice chairman) are appointed annually by Formas. Evaluation panels are made public on the Formas website when they have been appointed.

Prominent researchers and stakeholders

The evaluation panels comprise prominent and active researchers as well as stakeholders. Together the evaluation panel members should assess the applications according to criteria of Scientific Quality and Societal Value. The researchers should be senior lecturers or professors, or be assessed to have corresponding expertise. The researchers should primarily be active abroad. The stakeholders should have documented experience from own research and could be active either in Sweden or abroad.

Earlier experience

Preferably, persons who have previous experience of proposal evaluation should be appointed as chairman and vice chairman. The vice chairman steps in when the chairman is unable to lead efforts for some reason, such as illness or conflicts of interest. Supported by Formas’ secretariat, the chairman/vice chairman is responsible for assessment being made in accordance with Formas' general mandate, research strategy, rules concerning conflicts of interest, guidelines for proposal evaluation and what is otherwise good ethics (Codex Ethicus).

Each evaluation panel should have as even gender distribution as possible. The collected group of chairmen and vice chairmen of Formas should also have an even gender distribution.

Four years

It is possible to be an evaluation panel member for a continuous period of four years. Chairmen may serve an additional year. When five years have passed from a concluded period, a person may be appointed again as a member/chairman of one of the Formas’ standing evaluation panels. It is important that replacement of evaluation panel members is carried out gradually, so that only a minority is replaced each year.
